A Lower House general election was held yesterday and The Democratic Party of Japan won an overwhelming victory in the election. As a result of that, the DICTATOR's regime by Liberal Democratic Party for more than half a century was over.

This election has historic new wave and opens the door to true DEMOCRACY. Unfortunately, we have had the absence of democracy.

I hope that the new government will respect minority opinions and reflect the voice of the people. Also, we always have to be watch dogs that check government policy and what direction the government are heading in. What matters most is that we are responsible for participating actively in politics.

Our country still has much work to do ...employment, economy, education, welfare, environment ... above all, it seems that 'Right to life' have been disregarded.

Article 25 of the Constitution says

  1. All people shall have the right to maintain the minimum standards of
         wholesome and cultured living.

     2. In all spheres of life, the nation shall use its endeavors for the promotion and
extension of social welfare and security, and of public health.

In the election, there are still something that are never changed ... second or third-generation politicians who have territorial connections and blood relations & low voter turnout of young people ... I am disappointed.

Now, a typhoon is on its way to Tokyo and I got soaking wet from head to toe.

By the way, today is my birthday ...wet & lonely birthday ... actually I am catching a cold. I wish somebody could take care of me.

Today, I went to Akasaka ACT Theater to see rock musical RENT.

RENT is one of the longest running shows on Broadway (From April 1996 to September 2008) and RENT was the winner of the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Akasaka ACT Theater is right next toTBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System) , Minato-ku, Tokyo.

In Japan, the film RENT began showing in theaters in 2006.

Poverty, drug, AIDS, death, loneliness, desperation, love, friendship, dream ... life of young people in New York is described with beautiful songs, amazing voices and passionate performances.

There is no future
There is no past
I live this moment as my last
There's only us
There's only this
Forget regret
Or life is yours to miss
No other road
No other way
No day but today

The lyrics have touched my heartstrings since I saw the movie RENT ... I almost cried by the live performance today.

RENT calls up memories of my school days in America ... I wish I had a time-machine and could go back to the good old days when I had wonderful friends and passions, and dreams even though I faced a lot of difficulties and made many mistakes. Friends were always there for me.

'Sora wo koete  ra ra ra hoshi no kanata  yukuzo atomu ......'

I got off at the JR Takadanobaba station and then I heard the melody of the theme song of 'Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atomu)' from the next platform.

IMG_0396.JPGTakadanobaba is Atom's home! In the original story of Astro Boy, Atom was born in 'Ministry of Science' at Takadanobaba on April 7, 2003 and also 'the father of manga'  Osamu Tezuka used to have the office at Takadanobaba , and then people from local shopping areas requested the melody instead of the normal departure bell and design for wall painting under the railway bridge.

IMG_0538.JPGOn the night, on my way home, I happened to find fliers of ATOM exhibition at Tokyu Fudo-mae station ticket gates.

The next day, I went to Yokohama to see the exhibition.

IMG_0458.JPG

'ATOM 'exhibition is being held at Broadcast Library in Yokohama Media and Communications Center, Yokohama-city from August 1 to October 4.

The exhibition is held to mark the 80th anniversary of the birth of Osamu Tezuka and it is also a part of the special event in the Yokohama Port Opening 150th Anniversary.

This exhibition features the history of Astro Boy that became first animated TV series in 1963 and also Tezuka's signed manuscripts and celluloid pictures are on display.

The Hollywood's CG film 'ATOM' is scheduled for release on October 10.

To be honest, I like 'original' Japanese 'Tetsuwan Atomu' much better because it seems to me that Tetsuwan Atomu looks more winsome and innocent than 'handsome' ATOM.

I saw Tezuka's message and philosophy in the exhibition ... I found the issues of War and Peace and the warning bell for the science in his manga world.

August 15th

August 15th is the anniversary of the end of World War II (Defeat in the War Memorial Day).

koshien.jpgThe 91th high school baseball tournament is held at Koshien stadium from August 8th to the 23rd. Today's second game was stopped at exactly 12 noon and players and spectators stood in silence for a minute.

August is the month that makes me get in a sad mood, but smiles and tears of 'Kyuji' high school players in the midsummer heat give me courage and energy.

No more war ... Article nine of Japanese Constitution states "the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes."

I am proud of the Article 9 of the Constitution of Japan.

The city of Nagasaki marked the 64th anniversary of its atomic bombing today.

I was born and grew up in Tokyo, but I have another home. It is Nagasaki.

I heard that my ancestors were originally fleeing Heike warriors and reached Goto Islands in Nagasaki. Soft kyo-kotoba (Kyoto dialect) and a little bit strong Nagasaki dialect are still used among the families in Nagasaki.

If atomic bomb had been dropped on Nagasaki City a couple weeks earlier, my grandfather could not have survived (my grandfather just moved from the central part of Nagasaki City to the suburbs by military order) ... I would not have been here now. I am scared and also I am profoundly grateful for that I have been born into this world.

Nobody has the right to deprive people of their lives, dreams and happiness.

in Japan's No1 English Magazine "METROPOLIS"!!

yukata.jpg

You know A "YUKATA"?

A "YUKATA" is a Japanese garment, a casual summer kimono usually made of cotton.

People wearing yukata are a common sight in Japan at fireworks displays,

bon-odori festivals, and other summer events.

Off course, we can wear it!!

BLOWIN' IN THE WIND

I don't mind the heat, but I am sick and tired of the humidity.

In summer, it is very humid here in Japan.

We do need refreshing coolness.

There is one thing that could give the coolness to us.

That is FUURIN (wind-bells).

IMG_9999.JPG

In the grounds of Ikegami Honmonji Temple, there were 500 FUURIN (wind-bells).

It was like a 'sound garden.' When wind blows, the fuurin makes a cool sound.

When the wind force and the wind direction change ... sometime it makes a joyful sound and at another time makes a plaintive sound.

It looked like husband and wife cuddled up looking at the

Tokyo's sky at twilight.

One the way home I unconsciously sang to myself,

Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind"

............The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind .............
