Today in the morning, Our guest from Syria gave me this!
Syrian Tea!
At Sakura Cafe Hatagaya, we are offering World Tea, but it's the first time to drink Syrian Tea for me.
They put much sugar in tea ^^
The tea was very good!
In addition, one of them gave us hand-made cookies right now!
It's soooo delicious with various spices!
Do Syrian people like giving things to others?
And Maiko tried to steal it back! I surprised her. lol
Speaking of Maiko... I told you that she is a very kind person in the introductory post I wrote about her. Remember? Today she helped a customer from Indonesia to send a letter to a Japanese friend.
And guess what!!!...
He came back with flowers for her to show his appreciation!
What a lovely idea!
You should have seen her face!
3 members including me from Sakura group went to Singapore for 6 days to promote our business last week.
,
At first, we exhibited in AFA 2011 (Anime Festival Asia) which is the largest Anime event of Southeast Asia.
Many many people were there, and it was so fun!
Especially we met some our friends who stayed with us before :)
And also we gathered with our guests one night on Japanese Izakaya in there
.
We could met our old friends and new friends in Singapore at that time, had lovely time.
This trip was for the business, so we have no enough time to see everything in Singapore, but we could see a Marina Bay sands which is a famous hotel in Japan lately, and of course the Mar-Lion.
And we tried many kind of foods!!!
Thank you for all people who met in Singapore, we enjoyed very much!!
Actually it was my third time to went Singapore, but I would like to visit there again for sure.
Please come again to Sakura Hotel Hatagaya!
We are looking forward to seeing you guys again.

(This is Janne from Finnland. He's a musician and a frequent guest at Sakura Hotel Hatagaya. We all like him a lot because he's always polite and very modest. We are always happy when he stays with us.)
(Janne speaks 7 languages. Not all of them fluently, as he is eager to add, but I'm impressed nontheless! He talked to me in German a while ago and really surprised me with his good pronounciation. Ususally we talk in English or Japanese though.)
(It seems I was the first staff member he talked to in English, by the way. Ai was really surprised when she found out, because she had only ever heard him speak in Japanese. Maybe I should tell him that my co-workers are always glad about an opportunity to use English with our guests.)
Btw, I'm going to Nagoya next week for an extended weekend! I'll tell you about my trip in my next post. Any recommendations for sightseeing or local food??

Also, kommt alle her und redet mit mir! Ich freu mich auf euch!
Anne

A lot of guests from abroad try hard to lose weigh when their check-out date comes close.
Why do you think they do that?
It's not because of Japanese food.
Let me show you the secret.
I'm writing about the weight of their suitcase not bodily weight.
If it exceeds the limitation, they have to pay surcharge.
That's why they are keen to do packing.
I think someone tackle with managing to lose their suitcase somewhere today.
We can help you by lending scale or eating snacks lol.

Do you like Japanese food?
The ranking's top three Japanese restaurant...
No.1 Sushi
No.2 Ramen
No.3 Teppan Yaki
We have Sushi and Ramen map at front desk!
Today's guests from Australia like Teppanyaki.
They went to the nice Teppan yaki restaurant for their last night.
"SAYA" in Shinjuku (English okey)
03-3355-0310
You can try Japanese Teppanyaki!
Thank you very much Mr.Pagram and Ms.Jansson.
I'll be seeing you again!!
They are american guest, Mr. Jeremy and Isamu-kun (6 years old).
Isamu-kun made these cute teruteru bouzu!
He learned how to make it, and the story of Teruteru-bouzu in an elementary school near Hatagaya. He told the story to his father.
I decorated them in the cafe↓
Today is clowdy all day.
We wish the weather will be better during their trip!
A full year has passed since we went to Fukagawa with our guests.
Here's the picuture I took then.
You can read the blog I wrote about it.
http://www.sakura-hotel-hatagaya.com/blog/2009/08/fukagawa.html
It's quiz time!
Do you think how much these Japanese items?
The answer is.........
100 yen !!!
In Japan, 100 yen shops or one-coin shops, similar to dollar stores in the United States and pound shops in the U.K., are commonly known as "hyakkin".
daiso is the most popular 100 yen shop in Japan.
There is a nearest daiso in Harajuku(Takeshita street).
They have online store also.
This morning, one of our Japanese guests told me he liked our hotel and would revisit us and stay here again.
Actually, there are many Japanese guests who revisit here.
But unlike foreign guests, most of them never mention their intention of revisit here.
In Japan, politeness is often considered more important than friendliness,
and that makes casual talks between staff and guests bit uncommon.
So, I am heartend up by his rather rare frankness about his revisit. :-)
She is our customer, Kim Hae Yeon- san!

Do you know her??
She is a Korean Jazz singer. And she always stay in Sakura Hotel Hatagaya every year, from about 10 years ago!

I gave this small bouquet to her!
Thank you Kim-san. We hope your success for about your great job and your life!

Have you ever made "origami crane"?
This is the picture.
Almost all Japanese can make this easily.
Yesterday, 2 british guests, Kim-san and Carl-san find this crane on the front counter, and asked me, "do you know how to make this?".
"Sure! I can make it!"
They wanted to make it, so I showed how to make it.
During this lesson, a german guest, Matthias-san, joined the lesson!
They practiced many times, created some cranes to remember the way.
And.....
They did it!!
We all joyed of success. Bravoooooo!
Next, why don't you teach origami crane with your family and friends??
This how to make origami crane.(from website)

About an hour ago, our guests who have just done check-out made me surprised.
They told me that many airports in Europe are shut down because of the eruption in Iceland.
First, I thought that they were just kidding.
But they had serious expressions..
I found the article about it on website.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/8621444.stm
Volcanic ashes covered northwest part of Europe.
The particles in them have possibilities to damage airplanes' engines.
That's why many airports in Europe are forced to be shut down and many flights are forced to be cancelled.
I hope they could flight back their home (France) earlier and safely.
Hatagaya staff like to eat all the time.
Specially GIRLS!!
Today we got 160 g candies from our kindly guest!!
Yummy, yummy!
CANDY WANTED!!!
One of guest gave us the lovely handcraft gift from Israel.
Around the reception desk, we have full of gifts from all over the world which our guest brought from home to give us.

Have you ever seen the movie, the Pirates of the Caribbean?
I met Jack Spallow at our Hotel...!
He is a little shy boy.
He is very cute and much more mature than I thought.
He is....8 years old.
![]()
His name is David who was born in England and grew up in Japan,
He loves watching movies, especially the Pirates of the Caribbean!
He was acting a part of the movie story for us
I got fascinated with his acting.....!!
So I asked him

Do you like to create only-one handmade craft for yourself??
I like it!
As Hirotaka wrote the information, we held a workshop to make a Japanese Handmade craft, and watch&listen a Shamisen parformance on March 20th,2010↓

8 foreign guests, joined this workshop, and they become good creaters!
They can choose the design of cloth, color of sred and string, and beads for theirselves.
I assisted the guests when they get in a bind.

Shogo (rightside in this picture) translated teacher's explanation from JP into EN.
Of course, I assist the guests, too.

These girls made 2 and 3 kinds! For their friends's suvenior.
Good job!

After the workshop, we took a break with Japanese cake and drinks.
They ordered Café menu (including original drink of Sakura Café !)
http://www.sakura-cafe.asia/hatagaya/menu/world-tea.php
They enjoyed to create their own suvenior, and waching& hearing the Samisen parformance!
Shamisen player played soulfully!
Please join this workshop next time! (*^_^*)

In your country what is the typical food in summer?
If you ask for Japanese people,
A lot of Japanese will answer
It is watermelon!
We put some salt on it to make it sweeter.
Please try it.

When we had a summer festival in hatagaya ( 19th July 2009 ),
it was very hot and temperature was over 30℃.
We need to have something cold!!
She had a cup of Japanese sorbet (green color one).
Can you guess what it tastes?
For example red is strawberry, yellow is Lemon so...
Answer is ................................... melon

What is he taking for ...?
Is it he or ...?
He has a cucumber'pickled,we ate it but it wasn't popular to our guests.

Sakura Hotels (Jimbocho, Ikebukuro and Hatagaya) and Sakura Hostel (@Asakusa) welcomed so many guests from France last month.
The number of our French guests in July is 3,111 (one in five).
Bienvune!!
France tops a list ranking the number of guest in
Sakura Hotel Jimbocho (http://www.sakura-hotel.co.jp/index.html),
Sakura Hostel (http://www.sakura-hostel.co.jp/) and
Sakura Hotel Ikebukuro (http://www.sakura-hotel-ikebukuro.com/index.php).
As for Hatagaya,
Japan tops the list.
I know it's easy for Japanese to come to our hotel.
They don't have to go through immigration and customs.
I (We?) have a modest dream.
One day, the number of our guests from some country exceeds that from Japan.
Who am I kidding?
However, we welcomed more than twice as many Spanish guests (35 guests) as Japanese guests (17 guests) yesterday.
It seems to me that my (our?) dream comes true in the near future.
Do I get carried away?
We had UCHIWA (paper fan) workshop at our café on July 25th.
Miyuki and Mitsuko were instructors. GOOD JOB !
After the workshop, they moved to Sakura Hostel Asakusa and enjoyed Sushi Party and then went to see Sumida River fireworks.
Zoe and Viivi, from Finland, had a good time with
I am jealous. I was too tired from working a night shift to join the events. Shame on me.
Also, I wanted to meet 3 sisters in Yukata at Asakura ... well, I have to wait until next year.
Finland ...I bring up the image of 'Kamome Shokudo' (The movie is set in Helsinki, Finland and I like the atmosphere in the film) and Kimi Raikkonen (my favorite Finnish Formula One race car driver and he was the 2007 Formula One World Drivers' Champion)

At Fuji Speedway, Shizuoka on October 12th, 2008.
A girl was enthusiastically cheering for Kimi.
I did not know at that moment that this race would be the last race for Formula One at Fuji Speedway.
This is Hatagaya Mikoshi Festival at September, 2008.
At this traditional Japanese festival, people hold a Mikoshi (a portable shrine) with many people.
We,Sakura Hotel Hatagaya's staff and our guests joined in this festival.
During walking around the street, we could have some drinks, and foods.
This time, we had sushi(delicious!), beers, miso soup with pork and vegetables, snacks, Oden (Japanese Pot-au-feu) and soft drinks when we have a break.
We will join this festival in this September.
If you'll stay our hotel, enjoy this festival with us!!
