Yesterday we held the Portuguese Party at Sakura Cafe Hatagaya!

We decorated the cafe with ballons of the portuguese color (red & green), the flag, and galo which is like symbol of Portugal :)

And we costumed with the traditional portuguese clothes!

So cute, isn't it?

Ken was wearing the uniform of Portuguese National Football team :)

At this time, the party was at the lunch time.

This plate is from Alentejo region,of Portugal.

Of course we cannot miss this!

On last Friday, our hotels' popular event, Little Chef was held at Sakura Hotel Ikebukuro!

This time was so gorgeous!!

 The foreign chefs are from 9 countries all over the world :O!!

From Sakura Hotel Hatagaya, Brazillian guests cooked Brazillian sweet, Cocada :)

 This is made with Coconuts, Coconuts Milk, Condensed Milk, and sugar.

Sooooooo sweet :D

They cooked following their mother's recipe. 

 We will add Cocada to our cafe menu finally :) You can taste it soon!

Other tasty food is Burritos from Mexico!

In this event we can taste various international foods, then for me(I am so glutton :p), it is fantastic event! lol

Boro Market at Setagaya is started from December 15th  for two days.

This market has history more than 430 years.

Various articles such as a toy, daily use miscellaneous goods, foodstuffs are sold by curios, old clothes, a garden plant, and there are more than 750 venders stores.

It is held for 15th and 16th in January next year too.

You know, Autumn is the best season for watching red leaves.

It will take more days to watch these kind of beauty...

By the way, this tour is held on today.

The Tokyo Ramen Show

As you all probably know Ramen noodles are very popular in Japan and there are many different types of soups and toppings. So the Tokyo Ramen Show is the perfect opportunity to try Ramen from all over Japan and find your own favorite!

Time: November 2nd (Wed) ~ 6th (Sun) between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Place: Komazawa Olympic Parc

(Train station: Komazawa Daigaku on the Denentoshi Line)

It's just about half an hour away from Sakura Hotel Hatagaya. We'll be happy to tell you how to get there if you ask at the front desk.

Btw, did you know that Hatagaya is full of Ramen restaurants? Even if you can't make it to the event you can still enjoy a big variety of Ramen in direct vicinity of our hotel!

Just ask for our "Ramen Map" that we often hand out to our hotel guests.

It was festival time in Hatagaya today!

We've been very busy preparing for this event during the last couple of days.

Ai was so kind to offer me to wear her Yukata (light summer Kimono).

Yoshi and Miwa dressed in a traditional festival outfit as well!

   We offered drinks and food to the participants. So many people came!

They were carrying a portable shrine through the streets. Some of our guests took part as well!

Foreigners and the locals had a great time bonding with each other!

It was my first time to see this organ!!

Our staff also played organ!! but was quite difficult for me...

Nine kinds of world tea

Top3 favourite tea

We held world tea tasting contest tonight in Sakura Cafe Hatagaya.

More than 30 entrant tried nine different kind of world tea.

It seemed to be difficult but 21 participants answered all the teas correctly.(Lovely!)

These are top three favourite teas,

1.Quatre Fruit Rouge(France)

2.Masala Chai(Israel)

3.Corn Silk Tea(South Korea)

You can drink each tea at a reasonable price in our cafe.

We plan to hold another tea tasting contest this winter.Come and try!

A couple of days ago I met up with some guests from Sakura Hostel Asakusa and Sakura House at Shinkiba Station where we got on a traditional Japanese Yakata-bune.

A Yakata-bune is a boat where people eat, drink and party together while enjoying a fresh breeze on a hot summer day.

We had a great time preparing Monjayaki and Okonomiyaki! It was All-You-Can-Eat&Drink, so we ordered lots of different stuff.

Yesterday we had our 4th "Traveler's Cafe" at Sakura Cafe Hatagaya!

Many new faces showed up and we had lots of fun talking about our travel experiences. This month's topic was "Foreigners / Japanese people are strange". It was so interesting to hear what everyone had to say. We laughed and drank a lot.

They have Japanese tea Party at their own place, and the hosts gave us many attractions.

We went there last year,so I look forward seeing them again.

They have small concert.

Mr,Nagao(tenor) and Ms,Sunamoto(Pianist).

We tried Japanese tea and Chinese tea!

 And wearing Kimono!

It was great experience for us!

"Ehou-maki"

Eating "Ehou-maki" is another special traditional event which has become popular recently. "Ehou-maki" is a sushi roll made from rice, cucumber, shiitake mushroom, eel and so on. They say if you eat it facing the happy direction while keeping quiet, you will become happy.

We made sushi roll.....and...

Eat Sushi!!

During eating sushi, we cannot speak and make wishes.

January Grand Sumo Tornament will be started from 9th.

It will be held at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo.

Grand Sumo Tornament is held six times a year, but Grand Sumo Tornament in Tokyo is held only twice a year (biannual event).

Sakura Hostel (our sister hostel in Asakusa) have Sumo Tour on Jan 12th & 19th.

at Sakura Cafe Hatagaya.

 Japanese SHODO girls performed with big paper and blashes

(as like art blash).

They practiced many times translate their name in Japanese name,

as like, Ailine is 愛鈴（Bell of love).

SHINJUKU Southern rights 2010-2011

 

"The SHINJUKU southern rights" is so romantic.

Very large area by various illuminations of Shinjuku southern terrace and Takashi Maya Times Square are the eleventh holding by this year.

 

 

Who do you go to see illuminations this year? 

Today is 25th/Nov.

That means within 1 month Christmas will come.

Many places in Tokyo are decorated by twinkling Christmas trees.

The tree I recommend you to see is Christmas tree under Tokyo Tower.

The tree is one of the biggest Christmas trees in Tokyo,

a live fir tree brought here from Gumma prefecture, quite far country.

Its Christmas tree and the illuminated Tokyo Tower are the very impressive night view.

What is your country's national flower?

In Japan, there is no official national flower,

but two kinds of flower are considered as de facto national flowers.

One of them is Sakura, cherry blossoms. Sakura is sometimes seen as a symbol of samurai.

Another is Kiku, chrysanthemum. This flower is used as the emblem of Japanese Imperial family, and so as an extension, it is also considered as the emblem of whole Japan.

So, chrysanthemum cultivation itself becomes a traditional hobby, now.

In autumn, many chrysanthemum fairs are hold in Japan, and they are hold in Tokyo too.

One of the most famous chrysanthemum fairs, is Tokyo Chrysanthemum Fair.

Now, it changed its name as Tokyo Metropolitan Goverment Tourism Chrysansemum Exhibition, but it is still the biggest chrysanthemum fair in eastern half of Japan.

This year it is hold in Hibiya Park, at Kusachi Hiroba, from 1/Nov to 23/Nov.

You can enjoy many kinds of chrysanthemum and their beauty in many forms there.

November 1st is birthday of "Hello Kitty".

She is the cat loved by all over the world.

We got a friendship party even though a typoon was come.

We had lots of fun and could share lots of things such as

It was different the temperature between UK and Japan even though both of them are islands.

"Tokyo International Film Festival" began today.

This film festival uses "The Green carpet" in substitution for "The Red carpet" because of the theme of ecology.

"The green carpet" revitalized 23,000 pet bottles to produced it.

The electricity uses the green electricity that the carbon dioxide does not appear.

It is the time for attention to the earth is necessary even film festival.

 I want to continue such a wonderful movie festival for a long time.

Tokyo International Anime Festival will be held on 22nd and 23rd of October (22nd is business day and 23rd is public day) in Akihabara UDX Akiba Square (Exhibition) and UDX Theater (Lectures and symposium). This is the first time.

FYI, you can go directly near Akihabara from Hatagaya (the nearest station from our hotel).

It takes about 30 minutes by train.

This event is different from Tokyo International Anime Fair (http://www.tokyoanime.jp/en/) held in spring at Tokyo Big Sight.

Last Wednesday, we joined "Hatagaya Mikoshi Matsuri". It was traditional japanese festival.
Our friends enjoyed carring Mikoshi (It's very heavy) on them shoulder.
