In Japan, May is famous for its bright sunny days. These days are called as "Satsuki bare."

 

The First week of May is full of national holidays, so many Japanese enjoy travelling all around Japan.

And because of those many tourists, various kinds of events are hold all over Japan.

For example, In Tokyo, Black Festival is hold in Okunitama Shrine on those days.

The festival is numbered as one of the most strange festival in Kanto region.

Its ominous naming "Black Festival" comes from the fact that some shinto rituals of this festival are done without lighting, in total darkness.

And not only this strange and famous festival but also other events like horse shows, artisticexhibitions, Kabuki movies fair, and so on.

If you are interested in flamboyant Japanese events, this week is the timing you should visit Japan.

Golden Week we've been waiting for so long is coming!!

 

Have  you ever heard "Golden Week" ?

Golden Week is a term used to refer to a period from the end of April to the begining of May, where there are several public holidays and weekends in a row.

Showa Day(Apr 29), Constitution Day(May 3), Green Day(May 4), Children's Day(May 5) and the weekends before and after these holidays can combine to make a long holidays as long as 7 to 10 days long.

 

 

‥‥However it is quite hard to take a long holiday for us who working at a hotel.  

And It will be maximum 10 days holiday this year!

 

Ummm...

I'm jealous!!!!

 

So I'll travel just in fantasies!! ^^

先日、家の近くでアゲハを見かけた。そういえば、その一週間くらい前にはモンキチョウを、

更にその一週間前にはモンシロチョウを見た。つまり今年の初見である。

色々な動物に春が訪れているようだ。

ほんの近所のことが多いが陽気の穏やかな日には、ついふらふらと散歩に出る。

特に目を楽しませてくれるのは植物たちだろう。

天気がよかったので、散歩がてら花見としゃれた。

サクラはほぼ終わってしまったけれど、もう色々な花が咲いている。

ヤマブキ、サツキやツツジ類、アメリカハナミズキ、フジ、ドウダンツツジ、キリ等々。

Heute hatte ich zum ersten Mal seit ich hier arbeite einen deutschen Anrufer am Telefon! Ich hab mich total gefreut mal Deutsch sprechen zu koennen bei der Arbeit! Er hat ein Zimmer reserviert und wir haben uns ein paar Minuten ueber die Lage in Japan unterhalten.

Meine Kolleginnen sind ganz hellhoerig geworden, als sie ploetzlich nicht mehr verstanden haben, was ich gesagt habe. Aber es war schon toll, mal nicht angestrengt zuhoeren zu muessen, um zu verstehen was gesagt wird. :D Telefonieren auf Japanisch faellt mir immer noch etwas schwer, vor allem wenn viele Hintergrundgeraeusche zu hoeren sind.

Momentan haben wir uebrigens auch einen Gast aus der Schweiz. Mit dem konnte ich mich gestern auch schon ein wenig auf Deutsch unterhalten. Danach hatte ich irgendwie den ganzen Tag gute Laune. :)

Do you celebrate Easter in your country? It's not celebrated in Japan but in Germany it's a very important holiday. It's one of my favorite holidays actually because it's in spring, so usually the weather is nice and the flowers are in full bloom.

In Germany it's a custom to hide Easter eggs for the children. These eggs are very colorful, so they are easier to find in the grass.

This is what it looks like when we color eggs the day before Easter Sunday in my family:

 

     

 

When the color is dry, we put cute stickers on them:

 

 

 

                           And then we hide them for the kids.

                          

 

Easter in Germany is a lot of fun and obviously involves eating lots of eggs. :) There are many more traditions of course and they vary depending on the area where you live.

今日4月19日は「飼育の日」だそうだ。

比較的新しい記念日の様である。飼育と言えば動物園。

 

ところで今上野動物園ではパンダが持てはやされているいるようだが、

今年は上野に（つまりは日本に）カバが来て100年になるそうである。

 

それを記念して2月23日から5月8日まで「カバ祭り」をやっているがご存じだろうか。

 

 そんな中、残念なことにメスの「サツキ」がつい先日亡くなったという。

39歳だったという。有難う。安らかに。

Tokyo Disneyland (TDL)was re-open yesterday April 15th, the first time the park's been open for business since the earthquake and tsunami struck Japan in March 11.

That is a good news for our hotel's guest and we are also happy to hear that.

 

1.The park will be open from 8:00AM to 6:00PM for now. (Normally open until 10:00PM)

2.The part of lighting will be cut or turn off and set up the air-conditioner high temperature as usual in order to conserve power.

3.Admission prices will remain the same, but the company will donate 300 yen per visitor toward reconstruction of areas in northern Japan that are still recovering from the disaster.

4.Charity wristbands will also go on sale beginning April 22nd.

5.Dairy parade and fireworks will remain withhold for now.

 

TDL will keep doing business as the above.

Edo era of Japan, about 150 years to 400 years ago, was the first period of time that not only privileged classes but also commoners enjoyed cultural vogues, especially in fashion.

In ukiyo-e (woodblock printings) of Edo era, those kinds of vogues in old Japanese fashion are vividly depicted.

Ukiyo-e Ota Memorial Museum of Art holds a special exhibition, "Introduction to Edo Fashion" from 1st of April to 26th of May.

In this exhibition, you can see many ukiyo-es which describe high fashions of popular actors and high courtesans, commoners best clothes for cherry blossom festival in spring, light kimonos for enjoying cool evening breeze in summer, or vogues of accesories, like combs, hairpins, kimono-sashes and so on.

If you want to know old Japanese fashions other than ninjas and samurais, this is the exhibition you should visit.

I went to Kyoto for 1 night using a holiday.

  

It was my third time for Kyoto and was first time for spring, especially good time for cherry blossoms.

It was awesome!!

Thanks to warm temperatures, the cherry trees have progressed into full bloom in many areas over the past two days, including in many hanami spots around Tokyo.

Forecast dates of cherry trees opening in Tokyo this year is March 28th and the estimated best viewing periods are April 5 to 13. 

Rain, wind and temperatures can have a strong effect on the process of the season, for example, they can delay or shorten it considerably. 

Therefore, use the forecasts on your own risk. 

In Japan, I guess many people associate "flower" with cherry blossoms.

We can find cherry blossoms on the surface of 100 yen.

 

Now is the season of cherry blossoms and best time for viewing cherry blossoms in Tokyo.

They will be in full bloom before long.

We got invitation from Mr.and Mrs Honma san who live near Hatagaya Hotel again!

They have Japanese tea Party at their own place, and the hosts gave us many attractions.

We went there last year,so I look forward seeing them again.

 

They have small concert.

It's my first time working in an all Japanese environment, so it will probably take some time until I get used to everything. Especially using polite Japanese is very challenging because it's almost like a completely different language, but I'm doing my best, so I'm sure I'll get better at it soon. Please cheer for me! =)

Right now we don't have many international customers at Sakura Hotel Hatagaya because of the earthquake a few weeks ago and the problems in Fukushima. Life in Tokyo is almost back to normal though, so I hope we'll be able to welcome you back soon here!

Right now is the best season of the year. The cherry blossoms have started blooming and soon the parks will be full of people doing "Hanami" (= cherry blossom viewing). I'll tell you more about it next time!

Because of an earthquake of Japan, Ueno Zoo has been closed from March 17th but opend from today.

And  two giant panda "Lee-lee" and "Shin-shin" is going to be open to the public from today too, It originally planed March 22nd.

 

There were some hundreds of people lined up at the entrance, because this time is

 for the first time in three years coming panda in Ueno Zoo.

I've been living in Taito-ku for OO years, so Ueno is like a my garden:)

 

When I went to shopping in Ueno few days ago,

There were a LOTs of panda goods in Ueno!

Is panda boom coming!?

 

 

Panda Manju and panda cookies, panda sable‥etc. in confectionery.

 

There were several kinds of Panda's doll and so many panda goods sold many shops and places!!

 

I hope Ueno will full of life because of two cute panda♪

 

You can get Ueno Zoo from Sakura Hotel Hatagaya within 1 hour!

Let's go to the Ueno Zoo and see panda.
